Douglas County, Oregon Trip

Have you ever noticed that in the beginning there was a to do list?

That there was an order or a process?  Can you imagine if God created man and woman first and then light and dry land?

Did you notice that after God had finished the to do list each day, God saw that it was good?

Have you ever finished your to do list and smiled at the fact that you completed all that you set out to do that day?

There are steps to everything. When we set a goal we need to have the end in mind. But we have to take many steps or years to get there.

We fail at getting closer to our goals because our to do lists keep getting longer. We try to get too many things completed in one day. We believe in the lie that getting more done will get us closer to our goal faster. But instead we become overwhelmed and discouraged which results in us giving up on our dream or goal.

Oftentimes we do the things that we enjoy first or the things that give us the quickest positive feedback. Sometimes we will do the things that are the easiest for us first.

We try to put off the things that are not enjoyable, that are hard, and that will reap results or rewards after multiple times of us doing it.

Do you have a goal? Do you know the steps that will get you to that goal? Remember that there is a process. That there are no quick results. The process is actually a beautiful thing. This is where you and I grow, make mistakes, and learn.

Douglas county is a great place to spend a week at  but unfortunately for us we only had a few days here. There is so much to see and do here. There are wild mountain rivers, waterfalls, lots of places to see and learn about the history, and you can even have a safari experience. Here is what we got to do on our trip:

Wildlife Safari

We try not to miss an opportunity to experience a wildlife safari. This is one of those things where you drive your car while animals roam in their environment. Most of the animals roam freely across the 600 acres that are here. Excluding the dangerous ones like bears, lions, and the hippopotamus. As you drive it is common for animals to walk in front of your vehicle. To get in you pay per person and not per vehicle. They have a feeding area where you can buy some food and feed animals. We came here in the middle of the day when it was hot so many of the animals were resting. In the past we arrived here on a cooler day and a little further into the day so the animals were much more active.

Tokette Falls

Toketee Falls has two falls that flow into each other. The first fall falls onto a small pool which overflows to then have the second fall into a large pool. The trail to get here is considered to be extremely difficult but our family found it extremely easy. I even walked in heels on this trail. There is a huge amount of stairs throughout the trail. If stairs intimidate you or are difficult you might have a hard time on this trail. When there isn’t stairs there is a dirt path.

Steamboat Inn

Steamboat Inn is located in the most exquisite part of Hwy 138 scenic drive. The campwater house we stayed in was right on the North Umpqua River. So when you open the windows all you hear is the sound of the river. This sound is so relaxing and our kids loved playing in the backyard and the trail to the small rocky beach that we were able to have all to ourselves. I loved having a full kitchen, laundry room, 3 bedrooms, and an extra bathroom which helps a good deal when you have four kids with you.
The restaurant was a short drive away from our campwater house. Here they served fine dining. We went around 11pm so some of us chose from the breakfast menu and some from the lunch menu.
They also have a beautiful library next to the restaurants that guests can enjoy playing games, reading books, or catching up on their emails.

Watson Falls

Watson Falls is a massive waterfall with a elevation of 3,353 feet tall. As you start to get close to it you begin encountering so much mist. The 50 feet around the fall is covered with mist due to all the pressure coming from the elevation drop the water has. The trail to get here was mostly a dirt pathway but towards the beginning you have to cross a road. This is a grand waterfall, one of the tallest in Oregon.

Located off U.S. Highway 138.

Cavitt Creek Covered Bridge

Cavitt Creek Bridge is a covered bridge which you can drive on. We have seen many covered bridges in the past but this was the first time we have ever driven on one. The fact that it was built in 1943 and is still active now is very impressive. To our surprise it did not seem to be in bad condition at all. As you drive through you can see out of the windows and look at Little River.

Located at Glide, OR 97443.

Thank you The Steamboat Inn for hosting our trip.

Looks like a great family outing, love the waterfall and the animals. Recently I was in an open zoo in Melbourne and saw 5 giraffes up close for the first time. They are so pretty and cute, just like in your pictures.
