Every time we go on our road trip and we share videos of us eating and doing school work while we drive we get asked, “Do you or your kids ever get car sick?”
Now the answer is yes we do. But we only get motion sickness when we are on winding roads. If we are driving on a straight road or a road that isn’t very winding then we can read, write, watch a movie on our phones, and eat.
However, as soon we feel motion sickness we first try facing in the direction that we are going and we look ahead.
We also start chewing on unsalted shelled sunflower seeds which we buy from a European market.
You could also nibble on a salted cracker.
We roll down the windows to get fresh air. No one has ever thrown up before due to motion sickness in our family.
If someone feels really bad and the above things don’t help then we take frequent stops and get fresh air by stepping out of our car.
Do you get motion sickness when you are on road trips? What do you do that helps?
Shark Fin Cove
Shark Fin Cove is a great good detour if your passing through. The trail starts right off the road and goes for 0.3 miles before you get to the cove.
The trail first takes you past railroad tracks and eventually goes downhill to get to the cove.
When you get ot the cove the closest attraction to the trail is a arch from which the ocean waves flow through.
The main attraction is a bit farther out though. The shark fin is a large formation of earth and stone that looks very much like a shark fin. There is a large flat rock that you can walk on and examine some of the marine life around it. If you don’t want to follow the trail this far out there is a overlook that is closer to the parking lot.
Davenport
St. Vincent De Paul Church is a catholic that you can spot from the distance. It caught our attention when we spotted it from the distance. It is a short walk from the main streets of Davenport, California to reach this church.
Davenport Jail Museum is an interesting town jail. In this jail you can find two cells which were only used once. They used this jail once whe they thought two men were stealing horses and put them in jail until they came to the conclusion that they weren’t thieves. This is a jail in a town which has been very safe for a very long time. This jail is proof of how safe Davenport is to live in and visit.
If you love bakeries then you’ll want to stop at Whale City Bakery. I had sourdough artichoke and my husband had a pesto croissant. Peter had a ham and cheese croissant and Esther had banana chocolate muffins.
All the pastries were fresh from the oven.
Big Basin Redwoods State Park
We love backpacking and we look forward to it.
We began by walking on the trail and saw many sights. We walked past redwoods and farms to get to the campsite. We eventually got to the campground, set up, and started relaxing.
It wasn’t long until someone needed to use the restroom and it turns out that we had to walk to the next campground to get to a bathroom. We checked and it seems like the bathrooms at Twin Redwood Campground needs some maintenance so we had to go to the Alder Campground bathroom a handful of times.
This is a great place to go backpacking if your fairly new to backpacking or you have younger children with you. When we stayed the night here their was a group of Boy Scouts here as well.
Here no ground fires of any kind are allowed.
Waddell Beach
Waddell Beach is the beach that Waddell Creek runs through. Because of this the beach is one where you can walk between water on both sides and is something our kids love this because the loveĀ jumping across the river to the other. When we were here it wasn’t extremely windy or cold like many other beaches even though we were here in the fall. Because of that it was much more enjoyable than if the weather was colder.
We say many windsurfing. If you love bird watching then you’ll love it here since there are so many birds here.
Rancho del Oso Nature and History Center
When going to Ranch del Oso Nature and History Center you can choose two trails: Marsh trail or nature trail. March Trail is a 0.4 mile hike when we went here because the seasonal bridge was removed. From October to April this trail ends at Waddell Creek which confused us when we got to the creek. We assumed that it was flooded but now we know and want you to know.
The other trail is the Hoover Nature Trail and it was a very nice hike. It’s 0.8 miles and is harder that the marsh trail due to elevation loss and gain. This is a loop trail. Besides these two trails all the others follow the Skyline to the Sea Trail.
I walked barefoot on both of these trails. After backpacking it was so refreshing to take of my pack and shoes.
