I don’t know about you but this COVID-19 pandemic really opened up our eyes. We realized that we weren’t ready if something bad happened. We realized that being prepared for doomsday, an outbreak, end of time, loss of job, and so on is actually a wise thing to do. We never want to run to the store again and stay in large lines with “possibly sick people” because we need food to feed our family. We want to be prepared. We want to have a few years worth of food and supply. What better way to get ready then to buy food today that is healthy and will last up to 25 years?
It is always best to cook and use the food now that you plan to use if something bad happens. Why? Because you want to know how to use it. You also want to store what you eat.
We started with milk. Yes, I know people can live without milk but we don’t want to. We love milk mostly because of all the things you can make with milk : yogurt, cheese, butter, kefir, and more.
Milk
Now we love milk and let me tell you that this milk tastes nothing like dry disgusting milk that you might buy at the store. We actually were afraid when we first tried Thrive Life Instant Milk that it wouldn’t taste like milk but boy were we wrong. It tastes so good. Our milk is nonfat and it is fortified with vitamin A and D. How many times have you ran to the store simply to pick up milk because you ran out of milk? Well, with Thrive Life Instant Milk you never have to worry about running out of milk is you have a supply of instant milk stored.
To make milk all you need is…
- 1 cup water + 3 tablespoon Thrive Life Instant Milk = 1 cup milk
- 4 cups water + 3/4 cup Thrive Life Instant Milk = 1 quart milk
- 16 cups water + 3 cups Thrive Life Instant Milk = 1 gallon milk
Once you’ve made your milk place it in the fridge. Milk tastes best when it is cold. Enjoy!
Yogurt with Instant Milk
We are a yogurt eating family. We love to eat it with breakfast or as a healthy snack option. Putting fruit, honey, and nuts on top is our favorite way to eat yogurt. Making homemade yogurt is very rewarding.
What you need:
- 8 cups of water
- 2 1/2 cups of Thrive Life Instant Milk
- 3 tablespoons vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup of brown sugar
- 1/4 cup of plain yogurt with live cultures or 2 packs of live cultures
- thermometer
You first want to heat the milk to 180 degrees Fahrenheit.
Stir the milk and water occasionally to keep it from sticking.
Once it hits 180 degrees Fahrenheit you want to turn of the heat.
Cool to around 110 degree Fahrenheit.
This is where you can add the brown sugar and sweetener.
Then add yogurt with cultures of live cultures.
Poor into mason jars and keep warm for at least eight hours. Some wrap the jars with towels or put them in the oven with the light on. I used the Suteck Yogurt Maker. The longer you keep it at around 110 degrees Fahrenheit, the thicker and tangier it will be.
Once you have reached your desired consistency place your yogurt in the refrigerator.

Homemade Ricotta Cheese with Instant Milk
Are you a cheese lover? We sure are. We always have cheese in our fridge. Making homemade cheese is so rewarding and fun.
All you’ll need is:
- 8 cups of water
- 1 1/2 cups of Thrive Life Instant Milk
- 1/3 cup of white vinegar
- 1 tablespoon of salt
You first want to mix the water and instant milk into a saucepan. Heat it until it hits 200 degrees Fahrenheit. Remove from heat and add salt and white vinegar. If you want to you can add 1 tablespoon of butter to help encourage the curds and whey to separate better. Remember our instant milk is non-fat. Let it sit for 30 minutes. You’ll see the white clumps known as curds. Strain the curds using a strainer and cheese cloth. Squeeze the whey out. You could use this in your lasagna or simply eat it with crackers and fruit. It tastes better the following day, once it has sat in the fridge.
Buttermilk with Instant Milk
We love buttermilk in our family. We add it when making biscuits or pancakes. That sour taste is so delish.
To make buttermilk out of instant milk all you need is…
- 1 tablespoon of lemon juice
- 3 tablespoons of Thrive Life Instant Milk
- 1 cup of water
Mix everything together and let stand for 3 minutes.
Sweetened Condensed Milk
Growing up my mom always had sweetened condensed milk in our cupboards because she would boil it in the jar and make Russian waffle cake with it. I also used to put a spoonful of it in my coffee or tea. Condensed milk is very addictive. And the condensed milk we made with Thrive Life Instant Milk was so good that I had to try to keep my girls from sticking their fingers into it.
What you need:
- 1/2 cup of hot water
- 1 cup of Thrive Life Instant Milk
- 1 cup of sugar
- 1 tablespoon of butter
- 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract
Put the water, instant milk, and butter into the blender. Blend well. Then gradually add the sugar and vanilla.
