Have you always wanted to go backpacking/camping and were not sure if you could do it? Try Coast Camp which is located at Point Reyes National Seashore and see if backpacking/camping is for you. The hike is only 2.7 miles long. You can even take your children with you. This is a great beginner backpacking trip to do with kids. Once you have arrived to your camp site… have some lunch, set up your tent, and go explore the beach or another trail. The beach is only 200 yards from your campsite. We loved walking down to sculptured beach. Now this is no ordinary beach, it is sculptured beach with beautiful walls which look like a massive castle that has curtain walls to keep unwanted guests from intruding. This is an excellent beach to observe tide pools at because it is not busy at all and there will be times when you will be the only one on this beach. You can see marine organisms such as mussels, sea stars, sea cucumbers, crabs, and more. Tide pools are so mysterious and are only able to be witnessed during low tides. Climb the rocks and let the searching began. Once you have observed the tide pools to your heart content go and make some dinner. There is no better place to watch the sunset than from a beach. Take a blanket and some wine and enjoy the colors above you and the peaceful sound of waves near you. But I have to warn you….You might fall in love with backpacking/camping and will be back for more – I know I did. 🙂
