Did you know that there are 35% Hispanics living in San Diego? If you’ve ever been to San Diego then this percentage would not surprise you because the Hispanic heritage goes way back. The Hispanic mark is evident as you explore San Diego.
Junipero Serra Museum
This is a 1769 Spanish Revival style building. It is named after the Roman Catholic Spanish priest Junipero Serra. This is one of those mission style buildings that is very well preserved. This museum at first glance looks like a mission but it is here where visitors can see and learn about the history of San Diego. Many come here to take wedding or engagement photographs because the location and building is so beautiful.

Mission Basilica San Diego, De Alcala
This is the very first Californian Mission, so it’s a really exciting mission to see in person. We have seen over half of the 21 Missions but have never been to this one.It is so beautiful and so well preserved. The bell tower is by far our favorite. All the Missions have bells and these were used to let people know if it was time to eat, time to come home from work, or mass time. Father Luis Jayme, the first martyr, lies here. Did you know that olives were cultivated first in California here? This mission was a mission of many firsts.

Cabrillo National Monument
You can walk to the Old Point Loma Lighthouse and this is the coolest lighthouse we have seen because the lighthouse keeper was able to light the lighthouse without ever leaving his house. He did not need to go out in the wind but was able to leave his room and climb up the spiral stairway to the shine the light.
Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo first explored the west coast in 1542. In 1913, the monument was established to honor and celebrate his discovery. If you want to see a beautiful bird’s-eye view of the entire San Diego then you’ll love it here. It is so worth the short walk to get here.

Chicano Park
This place sure beats seeing a bunch of random graffiti. It is actually really fascinating. Some pieces of artists shows life, death, pain, power, empowerment, and so much more. It helps outsiders like us to understand Chicanos better through these bright murals. Chicanos are those who came to the Unites States at a young age. There are also known as Mexican-American.

Casa Guadalajara
Checking out all these old Spanish style missions and Cabrillo National Monument sure makes you hungry for some Mexican food. We found a great place for that near Old Town San Diego. This is the place where they make everything from scratch and you can even watch the ladies make tortilla right in front of you and everything you get here tastes so fresh and homemade. It is a very popular place and can be very crowded. We were seated in the beautiful outdoor patio, next to a fountain.

Thank you for reading our post. We share a new post every Tuesday and Thursday at 8pm.
