Longmont, Colorado

When visiting new destinations for the first time we know we won’t be able to see or do it all. We are actually okay with that because we look forward to experiencing the city again in the near future.

Longmont, Colorado has so much to offer.

We focused on family friendly activities.

YA YA Farm and Orchard Tours

YA YA Farms is the first farm we’ve visited in Colorado.

Upon arriving we found out many things one of which is the existence of fire bite. Fire bite is a disease in plants which spreads at high temperatures. This farm suffers from it and so does much of Colorado.

Despite the damage many of the trees here face this is one of two apple farms which offers u-picking in Colorado. On the property you can actually find an unidentified apple tree with no genetic manipulation that is known. There is a lot of grafting which can be found on this property which is something we also enjoy examining. The most interesting thing we learned here was that honey crisp apples have a natural coat the calcium is there to protect from bugs. Because of this there is a lot of sugar inside of them now and the calcium coat isn’t there to protect the fruit from insects. Unless you add pesticides (which this farm doesn’t).

Before leaving we had their delicious apple donuts. Seriously they are the best.

Sunflower Farm Tour

If I lived in Longmont, Colorado, I would be dropping off my kids here. This really is how every child should spend their day.

At Sunflower Farm they value self-directed learning and kids here get to spend the day doing what they want to.

We were able to toast marshmallows over the bonfire, feed sheep, and tour the farm.

This is a 50-acre farm and they are open to the public but not during their sprouthouse preschool and school-age farm program hours.

Cheese Making at Briar Gate Farm

We love cooking classes so this was such a treat for us because we love cheese at our house. Since we have been to the class I have made Chevre twice. Once you make things yourself from scratch you will never want to purchase it again.

Kate Johnson’s award-winning classes are fun and so educational. We learned so much about milk. She is an award-wining cheesemaker and you can actually get certified so that you can teach others how to make cheese yourself. She offers on-line classes. If we lived closer I’d be taking all of her classes.

She is a dairy goat farmer. You will get to meet her goats after the class.

The best part of the class was being able to enjoy her cheese.

Fairfield Inn and Suites

We love staying in spacious and clean rooms. When being away from home for a few weeks we like to still feel like we are in a relaxing atmosphere. Also after exploring Longmont it was nice to be able to choose to enjoy their indoor pool and jacuzzi. A fitness center is a bonus because we were able to still fit in our workouts while on the road.

Thank you Visit Longmont for an amazing FAM tour and experience.

Castle Rock Adventure is two hours away from Longmont. It is a great stop to make before or after you explore beautiful Longmont.

Castle Rock Adventure Park

Castle Rock Adventure park offers zip line tours, epic sky trek, adventure tower, and ninja warrior. We went on the epic sky trek which is a very interesting adventure course. Rather than making it progressive they have organized it to be as customizable as you want it to be. You can go from step to step or you can go straight to the top. At one point our family was spread across three of the four levels. This also results in almost no waiting for people if it isn’t busy. If someone in front of you is slow it is very easy to pass them up.

It looks like it is easy but that is far from the truth. I thought I was a adventure course pro until I got here and tried to do the third level from the start. I humbly went down to the second floor course until I felt confident to go up higher. If your scared of heights then you’ll want to take it slower and get comfortable on the lower levels until you go higher.
