Pier 39

As a blogger and a lover of capturing memories I take lots and lots of photos and videos. I do not consider myself a photographer because I still have not learned the settings on my camera and I’m not sure when I will. I come across too many photos on instagram with mamas saying that they had to give their child candy or some sort of reward in order for them to take the picture and if I’m being honest with myself and you, I’ve done the same things years ago. When kids are forced to take pictures the captures will usually not turn out great and the experience will no longer be enjoyable.

I usually take my tripod everywhere I go. I set it up and press on the record button. This has worked so well for us because I put the camera to the side and we just do our thing. There is no pressure to smile or do a certain thing. Then I have more content to work with. I cut out the sweet, cute, or fun moments and make a video out of them. I am also able to freeze any part of the video and make it into a picture. I have learned that captures like these are authentic. However, the quality isn’t that great. I’m more about the expressions in the capture than I am the quality.

I love captures of nature and I’m not a fan of captures inside museums which do not allow a flash so when this is the case we take videos and then take pictures from those videos.

Pier 39

People come to explore Pier 39 from all over the world because there is so much to do here. While walking the streets you’ll see local street performers. There is a certain charm to Pier 39. All you need to do is find a parking and then you can walk to all the destinations we have included in this post. If you love people watching then you’ll love it here.

Aquarium of the Bay

One of the most amazing things about this aquarium are the clear tunnels. Walking through a tunnel while observing aquatic creatures is a pretty magical experience. You can observe River Otters and they have a place where you can touch sea creatures. It is not a big aquarium but the Nearshore Tunnel and the Sharks of Alcatraz Tunnel make it so worth it. You can get so close to a bat ray, sturgeon, and the Giant Sea Bass.

Madame Tussands

Have you ever wanted to come face to face with Rosa Parks, Obama, Taylor Swift, Michael Jackson, Adele, and many more. Here you can get real close to some famous and fabulous people. But these are wax figures so if your shy or worried about what to say to them, relax because they can not hear you. Our children really enjoyed this wax museum. We came on a Sunday and we had the place pretty much to ourselves. We loved that they had the wax figures grouped into themes such as Spirit of San Francisco, History and Leaders, Behind the Scenes, Sports, A-List Party, Film, and Music.

Sea Lions

On Pier 39’s K-Dock you can find groups of Sea Lions soaking in the sun on the docks. These docks are comfortable for the seals to get on and off. They have made Pier 39 their home. It seems that these sea lions have always been here but this wasn’t always the case. The dock was once filled with boats. Just follow their barking sound and you’ll find them. Many come and observe them.

Magowan’s Infinite Mirror Maze

Mazes of any kind are such a great way to spend as a family because you have to find your way out and working as a group makes it even more fun. We really love mirror mazes because they are a bit tricky and at times there can be six of you. You actually have to be carefully while walking through a mirror maze because we saw a sweet boy run into a mirror.
