We raise our own meat rabbits and hunt jackrabbits. Rabbits are pretty tasty. They taste like chicken in my opinion.
I’ve been wanting to learn how to preserve pretty much all that we butcher. With this rabbit I was able to preserve the hide, the meat, the fat, the ears, and the feet. In the future I want to use the rabbit head as well. We want to have an area with skulls in our yard. The ears I dehydrated and they will be given as a treat to our cats. The meat we eat. I will be making a blanket once I’ve collected enough hides. The feet I used as keychains but I could easily preserve by washing and placing them in the freezer as a treat for my cats. The fat can be used as lard and can be used to fry with. I’ll be making candles with this lard.
It is so easy to make a rabbit foot keychain. All you need is rabbit feet, 70% rubbing alcohol, jingle bells, a key chain, and some strong glue.
You first want to wash the feet with warm water and soap. Then rinse well. In a mason jar place your rabbit feet and 70% rubbing alcohol. You want to leave your rabbit feet in the rubbing alcohol for longer than 48 hours. Then you’ll want to rinse with warm water and squeeze all the water out or at least most of the water out. Put the rabbit feet into a dehydrator until dry. It took a day for them to become dry for me.
You’ll want to use jingle bells for the end caps. Pry the four sides out and remove the ball. Add glue to the inside of the bell. Press and hold it. Add the keychain. Our kitten River loved playing with them.
We bought the jingle bells and the key chains off of Amazon.
