Red Lodge MT. Gateway to Adventure

If you come over, expect to have our children listen and join into our adult conversations.
You see we had weekly prayers and fellowship at our house and they were always a part of them when we lived in Sacramento. Then when we moved to the country we passed out flyers, inviting our neighbors to come over for bible study and tea time. Two of our neighbors came over weekly.

Our kids listened to us talk and often times participated in our conversations.

Please don’t tell your children to go away and play in their rooms when other adults come over.
“When master parents discuss and debate serious grown-up issues with their children in the room, children picture themselves in the adults’ positions struggling with those same issues. It’s like a graduate course at an elite college that uses the case method, where class discussions revolve around authentic, real-world situations in which decision makers faced choices that had real consequences for people’s lives. ” from The Formula written by Ronald F.Ferguson and Tasha Robertson

Lower Falls of Yellowstone N.P

Yellowstone River flows towards the north until it falls. One of the falls that comes from this river is called The Lower Falls of Yellowstone National Park. The waterfall collapses 308 feet down and is 70 feet wide. The earliest report of the falls known is from a member of the Lewis and Clark Expedition who thought it was a myth when the natives told him. The trail to the falls is actually quite interesting because it is a zig zag trail. There are also lots of benches on the trail which are very useful. When we got to the falls we saw mist making it seem as though the fall was expanding further.

Mud Volcano Yellowstone N.P

The mud was boiling and shooting into the air a couple of feet. This is a part of Yellowstone called Mud Volcano which has many attractions. The first larger mud volcano we saw was the Mud Volcano and this impressed us because of how much it was boiling but then we saw more. The next thing we saw was The Dragons Mouth Spring which didn’t have mud involved. It was a cave which released smoke from inside actually giving the impression that a dragon might be inside. Now there is a single mud volcano which was very interesting to hear about and that’s the Mud Geyser. During the 20th century this was a piece of land until the mud exploded, destroying all the trees which were once there. It used to have 10-20 foot geysers regularly but that’s not the case anymore.

Yellowstone Lake

Why not look at a136 square mile lake, while enjoying lunch?  As my daughter Esther  and I were preparing lunch, Peter and my husband were skipping rocks on the lake. There’s 110 miles of shoreline to Yellowstone Lake which might seem like there’s lots of places you could have a picnic. A large amount of the lake is volcanic but there’s still enough shore left that as long as your at certain areas it will be fine.

Devils Tower National Monument

It stands higher than all its surroundings. Sticking out like a sore thumb from miles away. It has been given a wonderful title but a terrible name. I am speaking of the first National Monument, Devils Tower. It is 867 feet tall and was established as a National Monument by Theodore Roosevelt himself. The name actually comes from a bad misinterpretation of “bad gods tower.” The natives believed that a bear lived on the tower. This tower is actually part of a Native American story about a group of girls running from bears and praying to the great spirit. Then of course the ground rose and the bears were left scratches trying to climb up. The one thing that seems to be pretty apparent is that the best way to experience Devils Tower is to climb to the top. Although only one percent of the people who have ever visited have explored it by climbing. The tower is far from the only attraction on the way in and out because both sides of the road will be full of holes. These holes are the homes of Prairie Dogs. This entire National Monument is very different from anything nearby.

Yodeler Motel Red Lodge MT

How cute is this Bavarian-themed inn? Now this lodge is not your ordinary lodge. It is actually a Historic place. In 1909 this lodge was actually apartments for European families who worked in this area.
We stayed in one of their lower level rooms. You first walk into a small kitchen that has everything you would need to prepare a meal for your family. This makes traveling with kids a whole lot easier and cheaper since you can have breakfast and dinner at the place you are staying at. The main room had 2 queen beds and the separate bedroom had a queen size bed which was very comfortable for our family of six. The location was great since we were planning to explore Yellowstone National Park. The fact that Yodeler Motel Red Lodge is so close to the Wyoming border, makes this a very coinvent location.
