Women of History

I believe that all women should be celebrated. By studying women who made history, we as women can be inspired to be examples as well. Some of us want to be bold, kind, brave, fearless, daredevils, adventurous, rebellious, outspoken, meek, educated, and more. We want to make an impact on our world, even if it is just to those who are close to us. God created each of us differently. We have different strengths and purposes. There is no need for us to try to be someone else when we can be who God created us to be. I love being a woman.

“There are women who make things better, simply by showing up. There are women who make things happen. There are women who make the way. There are women who make a difference. And women who make us smile. There are women of wit and wisdom who- through strength and courage- make it through. There are women who changed the world every day: women like you.”- unknown

Who’s She?

This is a guessing game of women who changed the world. Some of these women studied biology or were chemists. While others were activists, defended women’s rights, and fought against racism. This who’s she game is beautiful and a great way to learn about some amazing women such as Harriet Tubman, Alice Ball, Valentina Tereshkova, Grace Hopper, and more. It is a game for two. You can order this game through etsy. The masks were a fun addition as well, especially if your children enjoy dressing up. You can get the mighty women paper masks here.

Women’s History Quilt Made out of Paper

This is an interactive poster. You print out the pieces of the paper quilt and then you have to put it together. While children put it together, they are able to read about how amazing Helen Keller, Emily Dickinson, Jane Goodall, Sally Ride, Rosa Parks, and more were. When they landed on someone, they wanted to learn more about we then watched a few YouTube videos about that person.

You can get this printed out here.

Kokoshnik

A kokoshnik is a Russian tiara. To make this you will need: stock paper, glue gun, glue sticks, women of history fabric, lace, beads, headband, and scissors. You first want to cut out the design. As you can see below, we used different shapes for the kokoshnik. Then you can glue on the fabric, lace, and beads. Probably the hardest part is gluing the stock paper with your design to the headband. You’ll want to make sure it stands upright and doesn’t fall. The more beads you put on your kokoshnik the less balanced it will be. Take in consideration that when creating your kokoshnik. This was a fun crafty idea to do with my girls.

Paper Dolls

When creating unit studies, I usually focus on activities that all my kids can do together. That is why I am a big fan of unit studies. Most of the time we work on things that are more age appropriate for my older two girls. So, this time I printed out and cut out the paper dolls for Eve so she could enjoy. I loved watching Eve name the amazing women who made history. I believe it is through play that we learn best.

You can print out the paper dolls at Teachers Pay Teachers.
